How do we get to Puffin Burrow?

To get to Puffin Burrow (PL26 6PJ) you have two options:

Either, from St Austell follow the signs to Mevagissey and go through the narrow roads of the village and up Polkirk Hill. When you get to a junction indicating Portmellon a quarter of a mile straight on, turn left and drive along the sea road. The gate to Puffin Burrow is at the end of the row of cottages which you drive past on the left.

Alternatively, to avoid the narrow streets of Mevagissey, as you come along the B3273 on the way to Mevagissy, follow the signs to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Gorran Hevan, on a road which turns off right. Once past the Lost Gardens of Heligan follow the signs to Gorran and then Portmellon. As you descend into Portmellon you will sea Puffin Burrow across the bay. Drive around the cove and when you get to the group of seafront cottages on your right, you will see the blue wooden gate which leads down to Puffin Burrow. This route is five miles longer.

On arrival you can unload at the gate, by Dolphin Cottage and take your bags down the steps and along the sea edge path to Puffin Burrow's door. If you arrive in the dark it is a good idea to bring a torch as there are steps along the path to negotiate.
