LOCAL AREA

Where is it?

Right next to the beach and near a 17th century inn, tucked away from the main road, Puffin Burrow is on the Southwest Coastal Path at glorious Portmellon Bay. With spectacular sea views, just minutes from enchanting Mevagissey. The cottage also has a superb position in Cornwall for driving out to other areas for walking, shopping and entertainment. The Eden project is a short drive away.

What’s about?

Besides the beach ’The Rising Sun’, traditional 17th Century waterside Public House is just 50 metres away, with excellent restaurant, log burner and outside seating. Next to the pub, from early April until late October there’s an outside cafe, ‘The Shack’ and also ’The Paddle Shed’ where you can hire kayaks and paddle boards to take out around the bay. An instructor can also be hired to give lessons in the Cove. The twelve minute walk to Mevagissey opens up an array of independent shops selling local merchandise. Locally caught fish are on the menu in the restaurants and pubs. Dotted about the ancient harbour and narrow streets are many cafes serving delicious coffee, local ice creams and cakes. Mevagissey also has a convenience store for food supplies, a post office and a doctors surgery. Ferries sail from Mevagissey to Fowey in the Summer months with buses all year to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and St Austell.

Where to Walk

Among popular walks are to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Gorran Haven. Mevagissey and Chapel Point are both short strolls away. There are walking guides in the cottage for longer walks along the coastal path and circular routes from the cottage. Short car journeys open up many more splendid walking opportunities and villages around the area.
